To date, 25 states and DC now have some type of legal medical marijuana and/or recreational marijuana program in place. Finding application and licensing fee information and state regulations for these MJ programs can be a daunting task.

Below is a list of cannabis business resources for grows and dispensaries we hope can help ease your search. As states come online, we’ll add their information. When it doubt, check the NORML website. It has detailed information for all medical and recreational cannabis laws and regulations by state. You can also check out the NCIA.

Alaska:
Adults 21 and older can now transport, buy or possess up to an ounce of marijuana and six plants. On February 24, 2016, Alaska’s application window opened for license submission.

Colorado:
Since late 2012, when Amendment 64 went into effect, adults 21 and older have been allowed to possess up to one ounce of retail marijuana for personal use.

Oregon:
Oregon went live for recreational use in the summer of 2015. Limited amounts of recreational marijuana (flower and dry leaf products, plants, and seeds) became available for purchase through medical marijuana dispensaries to adults 21 and older. As of Jan. 4, 2016, sales and license applications are being accepted for recreational dispensaries. Medical MJ facilities carry recreational until licenses are provided later in 2016. Measure 91, the Control, Regulation, and Taxation of Marijuana and Industrial Hemp Act, is the ballot measure that legalized the recreational use of marijuana.

Washington:
Under I-502 medical MJ laws, each patient may possess and use up to 24 ounces of usable marijuana, and may cultivate up to 15 marijuana plants. For recreational, under I-502, adults may possess up to one ounce of cannabis for their own private use.

Arizona:
Medical marijuana became legal in 2010, and recreational use will probably be on the 2016 ballot.

California:
After being the first state to legalize medical marijuana almost 20 years ago, California is implementing regulations across the industry. Being the largest MMJ industry in the country, Gov. Jerry Brown signed a set of bills (AB266, AB243 and SB643) into law on Oct. 9, 2015, which together comprise the California Medical Marijuana Regulation and Safety Act (MMRSA).

Hawaii:
The Hawaii State Department of Health released rules governing medical marijuana dispensaries, details on the application process, security needs, QC, etc. Applications were accepted January 2016. DOH expects to select and announce licensees by April 15, 2016. A licensed dispensary may begin dispensing medical marijuana no sooner than July 15, 2016, with the approval of the department.

Illinois:
On November 9, 2015, the Illinois Cannabis Pilot Program went into effect and MMJ dispensaries opened for sales.

Kentucky:
Kentucky legislature legalized CBD oil in 2015, but an official MMJ program does not exist yet.

Maine:
Maine’s MMJ Program was signed into law in 1999. It has a list of qualifying conditions for patients to be accepted into the program. Patients may possess 2.5 ounces at any given time.

Maryland:
House bill 881 passed in 2014. In 2015, the General Assembly, with the approval of Gov. Larry Hogan, enacted legislation to improve Maryland’s medical marijuana law. The hope is that the Natalie M. LaPrade Medical Marijuana Commission and the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene will issue dispensary licenses in June 2016.

Massachusetts:
